Active Optical Cables

Active Optical Cable (AOC) is a cabling technology that uses fiber optics between two optical transceivers to transmit data. Unlike a passive Direct Attach Cable (DAC), AOCs use integrated active electrical components (chips) to boost the signal, enabling longer reach (up to 100m or more) with higher bandwidth (e.g., 800G). This makes them lighter and thinner than copper cables for similar distances.
